Backlit Keyboard in reverse

Hi all,

I recently purchased a 17" MacBook Pro, but I have just realised that if I close the curtains (drapes in American English) the backlit keyboard actually dims instead of getting brighter - and if I open the Curtains / Drapes and let sunlight in, the backlit keyboard gets brighter !!!

Maybe I have been abducted by aliens and had my brain tampered with but surely the backlit keyboard is supposed to work in the opposite manner ?????

I think if the keyboard lighting stayed at the same brightness it may be too bright for you too see the lettering of the keys & be a big distraction.

I dont have a MacBook Pro so i dont know. But seems logical.
 
What is happening is that when the room gets darker, so does the keyboard - and when the room gets brighter, so does the keyboard.

That has got to be the wrong way round surely ???????
 
Yeah what i meant was that its bright in bright light right? If it stayed at that brightness in a dark room then the keyboard would be very illuminated making the keys very hard to read and distracting.
I really don't know, wait for a Macbook Pro user to confirm but it does sound odd.

Remember you can manually change the keyboard brightness settings with F8, F9 and F10. Manual here : http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/MacBook_Pro_Users_Guide.pdf

It’s not a problem, that’s the way it works. If the ambient light is brighter then the keys become brighter so the lettering still shows up. It’s like a digital clock radio which dims when the lights go off.
 
It's working the right way. The dashboard on my car does the same!

As the room dims, your eyes will widen to accept more light, so you would be dazzled by the keyboard if it stayed the same brightness.
