I have a problem with my internal hard drive. when my computer boots it brings up a screen telling me a need to reboot (kernal panic). so i try a cd does the same thing. if i unplug the hard drive it boots. i can start in single user mode and mess with it. so what i want want to do is make it so it boots but doesn't touch the drive at all. i don't think the drive is dead because i can see all the files through the command line before it starts up.
thanks

after messing with it, it seems that i con only use it in read only mode it crashes when changeged to read write

i guess no one cares.. but i figgured out that if i boot from ubuntu i can move my files to a different drive..
