Bad noise coming from G4/466

Re: member
Okay, my G4/466 is roughly 2 yrs old. Recently it has developed an annoying whirring noise from within.

It sounds like a fan. I've opened the machine a checked the large fan (on the inside side of the case) but it is definitely not this, this purrs away quietly.

I realised the noise is coming from the large heat dissipation unit attached to the processor.

So, is there a fan tucked under there, cooling my G4 processor down, and I can't see it? Or is it something more sinister and have to worry?
:(

I'll try, but I'm certain it's coming from the heat sink thing... (had the case open whilst power on).

Do you have the Apple Care warrenty? If so give apple a call. Sounds like something sinister. I have a G4/466 as well and have no such noise.

It turned out to be the fan on the 2nd PCI graphics card (ATI Radeon Mac Edition)... don't know if I can get spares... also, do you think I'll have any problems if I remove it?
