Basic Text editing

Just started using my iMac for regular work a couple of days ago. My finger are still in (automatic) Win mode and that's quite annoying. I am editing some text (lets say in TextEdit) or in textbox on a web page e.g. this New Post Thread text box. What are the keyboard shortcuts for doing the following:

How to go to start of a line, end of a line? - (Windows - Home/End keys)
How to move 1 word forward, backward? - (Windows - Control-Left arrow)
How to go to start of text (first character of first line) - in windows Control-Home does this
How to go to end of last line (extreme last) - When I press Control-End it scrolls down to end of web page... thats annoying! arrrrrr!

Besides these, Any other tips while working with text, also appreciated :-)

Thank You,

Mac OS X keyboard shortcuts

Bookmark it. Also there is a keyboard helper program buried in OS X. To get to follow these steps:

1. Go to System Preferences
2. Select International
3. In International click on the "Input Menu"
4. Put check marks in 'Character Palette' & 'Keyboard Viewer'
5. Then scroll down and select your country's flag.
6. Your country's flag will now appear in the Finder Menu
7. Click on the flag and select Show Keyboard Viewer.
8. A keyboard pop-up will appear showing the keys when you press ma key down.

Thanks for sharing! I've bookmarked that page.

But the keystrokes I am searching for are not listed there. This is what I want - while editing any text -
1. How to go to Start/End of a line
2. How to move forward/backward one word at a time
3. How to move to start/end of entire text

Thanks,
-Vks

Try these:

option-right/left arrow to move forward/back one word
option-up/down arrow to move to the beginning/end of the line
option-page up/down to move up/down by a page length
command-up/down arrow to move to the beginning/end of the document

You can add the shift key to any of those combos to extend the select by that distance instead of just moving the insertion point.

Note that some applications do not use these standard shortcuts, or have slightly different behavior. These shortcuts apply to standard text fields, like you'd see in TextEdit or Safari, but apps like NeoOffice use their own kind of text fields, and might use different shortcuts. Also, command-up/down arrow might be mapped to a menu item in some apps.
