hello!

as of today, my macbook will not charge (it displays an (X) for the battery icon). However, when I removed the battery and placed it into another macbook, it worked just fine... even when I tried my other working macbook battery on the non-working macbook, it did not work. So we know for a fact the battery is not the issue, it has something to do with the macbook itself. it will work if you use the charger cable, but will turn off if you unplug it. any suggestions? its a late 2007 model. one idea I have is reinstalling the OS.

thank you!

It's not likely a software problem.
The "X" does not mean that the battery won't charge, but that the battery is not recognized (your MacBook doesn't see the battery at all)
If your battery is not recognized - and a known-good battery is also not recognized - but you still get power to your MacBook from the power adapter - then I suspect that the internal battery cable is faulty.

Delta,

Thanks for your reply. How would one go about fixing the internal battery cable?

Thanks

If you remove the top case, the battery cable is not too difficult. Better to take to an Apple service shop to make sure that the correct cable is replaced. They can also try another part if that does not help, as that battery cable is one possibility, but not the only one.
