Best place to get a used Apple portable

I am really dying to have a mac but I can't really afford a brand new system. I have like a decent $500 that I can spend on it. Just wondering about a webstore or something like that. I am not really fond of ebay.

I've been in the same boat before. The only thing I've really found is to wait and save your cash to buy a new system. Older/used systems always seem to be overpriced...even on ebay. An older computer is worth more to me than it would be to a third party buying "my" used computer on ebay.
