Big problems reverting to 10.2 from 10.3 HELP!!!

After upgrading to 10.3 on my wife's flat panel iMac (640MB), 800Mhz, VirtualPC has been all but unusable. I finally decided to reinstall 10.2. Big problems! Once the reinstall completed it wouldn't recognize my password at login (yes I saved it during the install). I was able to log into another account on the iMac but couldn't reset the "bad" password. I finally rebooted with the 10.2 install disk and reset my password. Now the machine will only boot into console mode and I haven't been able to get past it (but at least it now recognizes my password).

When my wife gets home I'm toast!

How do I exit console mode and resume starting into Aqua? Logout starts off promising but then returns to console mode. Rebooting doesn't work either.

Right now I am re-reinstalling 10.2...

Just finished the reinstall of 10.2. As soon as I logged in to my account it went straight to the Darwin/BSD console screen. At least it recognized my password...

If I control D out of the console it takes me back to the login screen. I can log in to my other account OK, but when I log in to the account my wife uses it goes straight to the console. Any ideas on how I can stop bringing up the console automatically??????
