bin file on desktop kills finder

Anyone had this issue?
I downloaded OfficeX1012UpdateEN.bin from VersionTracker directly to my desktop. Then my finder crashed and could'nt be restarted even if I logged off or restarted the machine. When I checked the Force Quit dialog it showed that the Finder was trying to start becuase it kept spawning Finder icons. I also have this issue when I scroll through my downloads folder. I get to some point (can't be more specific) and then the finder crashes and restarts. I'm sure it has something to do with a file, I'm just not sure why.
 
I had a simalar problem in windows XP...
go to the problem folder and view the hidden files, delete them and then open the window again. The finder "should" rebuild the hidden files... of course I havent tried this on a mac or unix for that matter, but Im almost positive a corrupt ".dll" type file that stores locations of files (or Thumbnails in windows xp) could be to blame...
