Bizarre problem

This is rather odd, and I haven't seen anything like it before.

Whenever I try to start certain applications (Quicktime comes to mind) they die upon launch. It's not a Carbon thing; iTunes and the Finder launch fine. Also, Java crashes Safari. These seem to have come up simultaneously.

I have run repair permissions, too. Any idea what's going on?

Check the console, if you can launch it. You'll find it in Applications/Utilities. Look for messages that appear when you try and launch an app, and anything else that looks weird. Also, focus on the time/date the prob first started.

This is what I've done so far: Reinstalled the iMovie update, reinstalled 10.2.4 combo updater, fsck -y, repair perms. This all started Friday morning. It's not user dependent (Same problem with another user).

There aren't any console messages; I checked.

They do put an EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION in the crashlog tough. Oddly enough. Photoshop started working again, but QT Player is still dying.

Project Builder did that to me. It didn't want to launch.
I disinstalled it, reinstalled developers tools, repaired permissions.. and it works.

Sometimes disinstalling the application (and it's relative application support in ~/Library or /Library ), and reinstalling to clean could help.
