Black border on Imac g3!

I transfered (via firewire) files to my g5 from g3, now g3 has a border on the display.
How do I get full screen back?

hmmmm... could be that the monitor's resolution got changed. Check your settings in the display pref pane.

I did google problem and found 1 person with same problem after firewire connection, unfortunately nobody posted answer.
I'm selling it to a friend so will go round and try it soon.
How do you do a clean install?
Will that do it?
