hello,
i have a mac os x version 10.4.11 with a processor 1.6 GHz PowerPC G5.
for the first time am trying to burn a dvd but as soon as i insert the blank dvd it is ejected within few seconds!!! please help me out.
I have read about removing the battery and holding the power key etc.
do you think its a good thing.
thanks.

Are you sure your G5 has a superdrive? Your example is what is supposed to happen when you insert a DVD into a drive that can's burn DVDs.

If you aren't sure what kind of drive you have, you can open the System Profiler (Mac HD -> Applications -> Utilities) and click the "ATA" in the left column. You'll see your drive among the list in the window on the right (Mine, for example, says "MATSHITADVD-R UJ-825", the "DVD-R" in the name denotes dvd burning)

If your drive does appear to be a SuperDrive, then your drivers may be messed up, and an Archive & Install might be in order. There may be an elegant solution that involves long strings of characters typed into Terminal, but I don't know them.

If you need a DVD-R drive, they can be picked up pretty cheap (~$30) from websites like Macsales.com

Good Luck.
