Blue Screen of Death?

Hey guys I recently upgraded the Ram in my IMAC G4 and while I was surfing the web and using firefox my MAC froze up. All I could do was do a forced power down by pressing and holding the power button.

I then booted it back up..and the MACOSX loading box came up but when it boots up all I have is a blue screen with a mouse cursor but no icons or anything.

The Mac repair guy that sold me the ram told me to uninstall the ram and then put it back in.

But I did that and nothing happened.

I don't have any off the OSX software either.

What are my options..can I boot this in a safe mode?

Take out the new ram. If you replaced previous ram with it, put the old ram back. Otherwise, if you just added ram, leave it out. See if that makes a difference - if it does, it is a problem with the ram. Of course, if you were replacing the ram to fix a problem, this may not be an option.

You can try safe mode, but if ram is causing the problem I don't think it will help.

Once you have access to the original OS disks, you have other options, such as trying to boot from the hardware test CD and running the hardware test or booting from the OS install CD and repairing the disk. If ram is the problem, the latter won't help, though the former might find something if you can get it to run.
