Bluetooth file transfers between two mac laptops

I have a macbookpro but my friend has recent the black macbook. I tried to startup bluetooth and do a file transfer but it doesn't work. It just scans and scans, loads and loads, but nothing ever happens.

I successfully paired the computers, but they are not "connected". I tried to right click on connect or click on it somehow inside the bluetooth pane in system settings but does not work. There is no actual 'connect' button. It shows a list of computers that are "paired" or "recognized". States if its paired or not and right below has the connected icon.

Frustrating as hell. Does bluetooth have a file limit size or something?

AFAIK, Bluetooth transfer will be very slow with Firewire much faster if you have a Firewire cable. The fastest transfer over Firewire is FW 800.

Another way is if the two Macs are connected wirelessly (which I think may be the case here?)

In a Wireless Network you would just create and use an ad-hoc WiFi network. From the Airport menu on one Mac, select "Create Network", then connect to that network from the other Mac.

One paired with Bluetooth, you need to use the application "Bluetooth File Exchange" to transfer files via bluetooth.

I suspect you're trying to connect to the other computer like you would mount a server volume, but that's not how it works with Bluetooth. Use "Bluetooth File Exchange." As VirtualTracy said, though, there are much faster ways of transferring files... you can even connect the computers with any old ethernet cable (either straight-through or crossover types) and get gigabit ethernet speeds, which is infinitely faster than Bluetooth.
