Bluetooth in radio-saturated environment?

Since Bluetooth operates in the 2.4 GHz band I was wondering if I can expect to have interference (on a keyboard and mouse) in my apartment which is saturated by 2.4 GHz traffic (mostly thanks to stupid neighbours who have set their WiFi routers to 100% power when they could easily do with 25%).

Although I dont exactly know much about it. I wouldnt think it would cause a problem because the Bluetooth does not accept incoming internet signals.

I have a Bluetooth USB Stick for my PC (which I rarely use), and people around me also have their routers turned all the way up. My Bluetooth stick also operates at 2.4Ghz and I've had no problems.

It could conceivably reduce the range a bit, from having a lot of background "noise" but I don't think it would cause problems unless you're trying to use the BT stuff from a distance.

Note that I don't use BT, so take that with a grain of salt, since I haven't ever tested it.

The range of Bluetooth is already so short it doesn't concern me much, I was more worried about getting packet corruption causing my cursor to move erratically or type things I didn't press a key for.

The reason I was worried was that my 2.4 GHz phone /really/ doesn't work very well in this environment. Also from the technical literature I've read it recommends devices that have 802.11b/g and Bluetooth transmitters in close proximity to each other (like a laptop) to only transmit with one at a time to prevent interference.

Thanks for the replies!

Your welcome :). Also, yes I've heard of some cordless phones not working around wireless routers.

Oh yeah, 2.4 GHz phones tend to interfere with other 2.4 GHz equipment--like WiFi and Bluetooth, hence my worry.

My parents just got a pair of nice 5.8 GHz phones for their house...lucky ;)

i use a bluetooth headset with my cell phone, and i usually put my cell phone right next to my wireless router when i talk on it...and i have no problems, it's usually crystal clear. at my old job, my office contained the server closet, and i used a bluetooth mouse there. also, no problems.
