when one gets tired of the utterly slow internet connections and DL speeds and when one can't benefit of a ADSL cable for technical reasons and of anything better (for other reasons) one asks oneself: how can i boost up the performance of my 56 k dial-up modem. Is there any way connecting it on a ethernetcard but using the ordinary phone-lines ? Any other solution?

That's an option with DSL! I've heard of installing a 2nd modem card. Needs a 2nd phone line, and software that will include the 2nd dialup connection. And you need Mac hardware support for a 2nd modem card. I've never heard of it tried on a Mac, but??? Is cable modem service available to you? One main ingredient to a faster connection - money....
