Im not really familiar with working with macs. Is there a way to create a boot disk for a mac that will act like a DOS boot disk on PC?
 
Yes, you can burn a CD with Toast or CDBurner in the Finder(can the Finder burn bootable CDs?) that has a minimal System, is bootable and start your Mac off of that.

The easiest way I have heard of is to make a CD sized disk image using Disk Copy and install the MacOS onto that image. Then burn that image to a CD making sure you specify it as bootable.
