boot into OS 9 - keyboard shortcut??

I know I can boot into OS X by holding down the X key during startup.

How can I do the opposite - boot into OS 9?

I tried the 9 key but that wasn't it.


(I know I can do it via SysPref but I am wondering about a quicker way)

On most machines you should be able to just hold down the option key at startup.

Starting with Option held down will show all partitions that have Mac operating systems setup., Might even show a partition with Linux or other OSes, anybody know? if there is only one partition, then there's no way at that point to change the OS on that partition to continue boot. BUT, usually if you clear PRAM, the startup reverts to OS 9 automatically.

You can use Command+Option+shift+backspace/delete to start up from a different startupdisk
