Bootcamp Assistant Not Working

Okay, my Mac is having a lot of problems. It has been for quite a bit, but I decided I wanted to put my files on an external hard drive before I tried to fix anything and the situation has continuously worsened. I cannot install new applications onto my Mac (I always get error code -10822), apps such as the archive utility don't work, sometimes even Quicktime gives me problems, more recently software update isn't working, the list goes on...

So. I started by trying to boot my computer from the Installer DVD and using a Time Machine Backup to restore my computer to a backup, but when I insert the DVD and try, it simply says "Alert! Mac OS X 10.6 cannot be installed on this computer".

I did some searching and found out that since my Mac is partitioned, it's probably due to that and I should delete the partition and try again. However, Bootcamp assistant is not working. When I try to open it, it says "Boot Camp Assistant cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure Boot Camp Assistant works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X." Well I can neither reinstall the application, nor can I install any available updates... so there's an issue right there.

And now I'm stuck. Can you please help me fix these issues?

Try to fix your hard drive. The error code is major hard reading problems. Use the 10.6 disk and boot with that disk like you are doing an install. At the beginning of the install you can move your cursor to the top of the screen and see a limited Finder bar. In that finder bar launch Disk Utility and use that to repair permissions and repair the disk.

Then consider getting a new hard disk because this hard drive is dying a slow death.
