Booting 9.1 on X partition

I just booted 9.1 from my X partition for the first time. It was totally F**d up , no items in apple menu, weird system font and so on. Is this normal ?
Is it the X installation that "customizes" the 9.1 system ?

I don't know what the problem could be. I boot into OS 9 on my X partition and it works fine - actually great. Rebuild the desktop, zap the PRAM, if you have Norton, use it. If that doesn't work, re-install OS 9.

I re-installed 9.1 on the X partition.
Couldn't choose that 9.1 in the "classic"-startup (grayed out).
Copied that system to anoter , newly formatted, partition, Couldn't choose that partition eighter, 2 restarts later i suddenly could choose the copied 9.1, works fine now...
