I have an External HD Firewire 30GB, how to make booting disk Mac OS X for here? I try to copy all from my internal HD but not works!

go to versiontracker.com and download "carbon copy cloner"

this should copy all the files including the "invisible unix files" that need to be in place on the other drive.

then go to system prefs and choose the firewire drive as the boot and you should be golden

enjoy! [hope your drive is bootable, it should be]

Your Firewire drive needs to be using the Oxford911 chipset in order to boot from it.

I had the same problem with my Pyro External IDE box that would not boot, then later found out it wasn't using said chipset. :(

You can do a quick test by rebooting your mac holding down the Alt/Option key, if your drive shows up - you can boot from it (thus there might be another problem that's preventing this).

I have a SmartDisk FireLite 20gb FireWire HD that I boot up from
http://www.smartdisk.com/

SmartDisk's web site says you can't boot up with OS X but it does work. I boot in verbose mode holding control-V. When it gets to a certain point it just stops and I have to unplug the cable from the one port and plug it in to the other port. The power comes back on and then boots up normally. I have to do this 50% of the time otherwise the happy mac icon breaks.

yah well SmartDisk says it doesn't boot at all so if i have to *****rig it to work than thats what i'll do. I never had any problems while I was using is so it might be a power supply problem. I dunno.
