Brightness controlls no longer working, FireWire HD not recognized

Just installed 10.2.2. Ever since I've been running it, my external FireWire HD isn't recognized. Also, I can't use the brightness controlls that double as F1 and F2 keys. Everything else seems to work fine. Any ideas?

Has anyone else out there installed 10.2.2 on a 500MHz iBook w/Dual USB? Any similar problems?

i'm not sure about your brightness controls, but my guess is that you updated on top of a corrupt set of volume structures. Intalling system software on top of an old messed up one can amplify the problems. it's always a good idea to run a good diagnostic and repair program like diskwarrior or techtool pro before updating. you may still be able to get things straight by repairing. i am assuming you have run fsck or disk first aid.

just to clarrify, the drive is not recognised when you start up with it plugged in and when you start up with it unplugged and then hot plug it? is the disk recognised if you boot from os 9? or from a startup cd? is the drive recognised on another mac?

Arg, should have read that before I reinstalled 10.2 this morning. Now everything works fine. It was weird, I ran Apple System Profiler and plugged in the HD and it was clearly being recognized as a Lacie External HardDrive according to the ASP. Just nothing showed up on the desktop. Well maybe I'll switch to 10.2.2 without having messed with the sharing. Thanks,
