hi!
after my iBook (12,1", G3-500) got some beer on its display the backlight isn't working any more.

I'll buy on monday a screw driver to open the display. does anyone has experiences on this?

Michi

Please, don't do it.

Take it to an apple store. They'll tell you what's wrong and how much it will cost you to have them fix it.

Unless you're a technician with training in this kind of stuff (which I suppose you aren't judging on how you're asking for experience), don't do it yourself.

Beer on the display? It must have seeped in between the screen and the casing.

Please be more careful in the future, and, as Mike said, have someone look at it who knows what he's doing instead of (what sounds like, my apologies if I'm off-base here) a rowdy fraternity student.

I'll have to second the other opinions here. You could ruin your iBook completely if you attempt this yourself, and also void any warranty that you may still have.

Take it to someone and get an estimate, unless you're majoring in electrical engineering.

Ditto. Then have the culprit who spilled the beer the bill - if he has the dough to pay you back.

And the technican will know it was a liquid that spilled on it, so I don't think this will be covered on a warranty if it's still active. :(
