Broken Folder Icon after Powerbook g3 sits for a few days

Ok, so the weirdest thing occurs when i do not use my laptop very often. If it sits for more then 3 or four days, it will not boot up to the OS. I get a broken folder icon.

I ran the disk utility, and the hard drive is fine. Nothing else is wrong that i know of... and i find this problem very strange... Could it be that the OSX 10.3 disks that i am using are NOT original? It installs fine with no problem, so i dont think this is it.

Any ideas?

The battery is completely dead, which was another weird situation, seeing as i left it charging for a long period of time, which normally shouldnt be a problem. One day i go to use it, and the battery will no longer hold a charge.

I am going to try taking the battery out and keeping it off of the AC to see if that is my problem. If not, then i am back to square one..

Thanks for your help so far...

Sorry, Its a lombard

Sounds as if the PRAM battery is on it's way out. Can you tell me if it's A "bronze" or a "clam" G3, please, please, please. when posting give us a the spec, it will help tracking down the issue more quickly.

even if it is a bad PRAM battery if the laptop's battery is not taken out or the laptop is not put into sleep mode and then left unpluged. Your main battery will act as your PRAM battery. 2nd Do you just leave it in sleep and not plug it in? if so that could be it. Or you may have a battery that needs to be reconditioned. I know my old G3 PDQ Wallstreet 233 MHz laptop needed the battery reconditioned on it. It took about 3 times of taking it down to 0% then pluging it in, to get it back to the point that it will hold in there for any time at all. Because my PRAM battery has long gone the way of the 65k macs by now. But it is a pian to get to where that battery is on here that I just use the laptop's main battery to run everthing. It works ok other then when I have to reset my PMU on here then I have to plug it in, to be able to boot it back up. and yes I'm run OS X 10.4.6 and have 160 MB of ram and I have OS 9.2.2 and ubunit linux on here and she runs just fine for me.
