Broken iBook Hinge/Display

My wife's G4 12" iBook suffered the wrath of our 2.5 year old rolling across it as the my wife held the laptop on her lap. As my daughter rolled over it, my wife said it happened all in slow motion and a "crunch" sound just echoed before my daughter fell to the ground after landing on it.

Post breaking, the display worked. I took the backing off the display to see what was broke and the whole hinge and support support structure that allows the lid to flip back and forth is broke on both sides. It can be moved, ever so carefully, but is all bent. The display no longer lights up after being moved a few times, but with enough direct light on the surface of the screen, you can see that the screen is functioning with drop down menus and boxes coming up, just no back lighting.

Outside of this it functions perfectly. Hooked it up to an external monitor and works fine.

I don't really know what to do with this thing. I hoped to get some $$$ out of it and upgrade it this year to a MacBook. While that will happen much sooner than I originally planned, the resale value of the iBook just went down the tubes.

I don't really want to spend the money to get it repair if it is going to cost several hundred, as it would probably only offset the value I lost by it being broke.

Might just have to ebay it as parts and hope to get something out of it. It won't drive anything higher than 1024x768 for the external display, so using it as a test system is pointless.

Any ideas, suggestions or offers?

Scott
