Does anyone know the maximum number of charachters allowed in a link for any given browser?

I'm interested in the name brand browsers more so than anything.

Internet Explorer
Netscape Navigator

I'm looking for an official source for that information more so then anything.

I work for a company that is interested in knowing this information because we hand-code the selected inventory result pages and we want to know about how many products we should showcase without running into issues.

Any info is appreciated.

Maximum URL length in Internet Explorer = 2,083

Nescape claims to have no URL limit length
