burn problems

I have a G4 iMac with a combo drive. It plays cds and dvds just fine, but when I try to burn a disc, say in iTunes, it will make it to the finalizing stage and then a error window will pop up saying I "have inserted a disc containing no volumes mac os x can read." I have tried multiple cd-rs.

Also sometimes it won't even get to the burn stage and say something like burn speed to high, then I will change it to the lowest speed and same thing happens.

I am getting really fustrated. I look forward to your suggestions.

Thank you,
Amanda

Amanda, that combo drive is getting long of tooth. You might try
a CD/DVD lens cleaning disc, but I suspect the drive is just old
and weak like me. I suggest spending not too many bucks ($50?)
at OWC (macsales.com) for a new superdrive, say a Pioneer 110D.
The web site has a video tutorial on how to install the new drive.
