burned DVD won't play

I'm trying to copy a homemade DVD, and after I make a copy, it comes up on the desktop with a name, but it won't play. The information from the films is in there when I click on it, but it won't cause the DVD player to open, and when I try to open it, it says "can't read media." I made the copy in the simplest way possible: opened up my old DVD, dragged the audio and video folders onto the desk top, then dragged them again into the burn window, and did the burn, at the slowest speed. Why won't it work? Did I forget something? I'm on a fairly new MacBook Pro with OS 10.4
Thanks.

Is this made from a commercial movie DVD?
If so, the reason it won't play is that the DVD is encrypted, and the code cannot be copied when you make an exact copy of the disc. It copies the data, but you cannot copy the key. Blame Hollywood.
