Burned DVDs won't play on standard DVD player

Some time ago for no reason whatsoever burned discs quit playing on standard dvd players. They used to work fine, then I think it was a OS X update that changed everything.

I've tried using DVD-RW, +RW and burning at the lowest speeds. Nothing seems to help. I'm using Toast to burn.

I don't want to waste a bunch of dvd-r discs before I figure this out.

Anyone know what could be the problem?

Help. I need to burn my demo reel and get it to my agent, soon.

Check the DVD brand you are using, some are more compatible than others.

No problems with the DVD player ?

The brand is the same I've always used, although I have several different. It's not the player(s) it's definetly the writer. I'm going to try a disc copy with an old disk that works on the players.

I'm trying different burning software now. The copy of the working disc made previously on this machine didn't work. Do you think I could make a working dvd by just dropping the audio and video_ts folders and burning with the finder?

I burned with Disc Utility and the finder and had some success. I even had success taking the video_ts folder that toast created and dropping it back into the Data tab and burning it as a DVD-ROM. That actually seems to work best.

So the problem is the Video option in Toast. It simply doesn't work.

It must be a combination of your burner and the player or something. I have an LG burner and burned DVDs work fine in my DVD player burned with Toast.

The problem seemed to be the media. Until I got some Sony discs I could not figure out where the problem was. Turns out other than the media there wasn't one. DO NOT USE MEMOREX MEDIA! I never got one disc to work. I still haven't tried the normal video tab in toast with the new media though. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/125996
Says not to use the Video tab.

Glad you have had some success with the problem.

Is it possible that you updated Toast and the update caused the problem? Or maybe you didn't and should. I think T6 is at 6.09.

I occassionally make DVD Videos from Toast and have never had any problems. But I dont do it very often, as I usually end up using iDVD, then make an image, and burn that in toast.
