Burning a bootable dvd

I've sort of asked before, but am nervous about how to do this... I have a 10.4.1 bundled dvd that came with my ibook. I am wanting to burn a back up of it, as I loose and scratch the crap out of everything! Well, the dvd is over 5gb, and I have called apple several times asking them to send me a new disk, unbundled. The last guy that I spoke with said to simply download the combo version (10.4.3 combo) and burn it to a dvd as a bootable disk... Does that make sense? How do I do that in Disk Utilities? Which setting makes it bootable? Do I simply load the Disk Image and burn it, or open the Disk Image on my desktop and burn that onto the dvd?!? I'm totally confused. Please send help! Everything is crashing and going all kookie!

If your bundled DVD is over 5 gigs, it's a dual layer dvd and as such it might be tough to image with Disk Utility and burn. However, you can create a read/write image of an install DVD and customize the contents, but it's tough. If you're having a lot of issues, you might simply order new media or call your local Apple Retail store, if there is one, or the nearest reseller.
