Burning DVD-RW

While Apple does not mention that their SuperDrive can burn DVD-RW's,
I read in MacWorld you could when using iDVD2.

It says start the burn process for your DVD-R as Apple calls for and
insert a DVD-R disk when asked and when you see the message
"Preparing" swap it out for a DVD-RW.

I do the above but my MAC fails to reconize the DVD-RW disk and
fails to burn.

I have a 1Ghz, Dual processor G4 with Super Drive. I'm trying to use
Memorex Rewritable DVD's.

Thanks for any suggestions:(

You can use DVD-RW for data and that's about it.

The reason it's not supported in iDVD2 is because about 1% of set top DVD players would be able to read it. (Just the Pioneer ones really (the SuperDrive is a Pioneer AO3) and maybe a few Sonys).

To use the RW for data treat it as a DVD-R abd it'll burn as normal. When you want to use it again you'll have to format the whole thing (unless you have Roxio's Toast and do multiple sessions) using the Disk Utility application. You'll see a list of drives one of the, will be about 4.2GB, click on it, then use the tabs to format/erase the media.

Then it'll appear again (may need to eject) just as a DVD-R.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. It answers part of my question. My intent for using the
DVD-RW with i-DVD2 was only for testing and passing between other staff
members that could review the DVD on their computers.

I can't ever get Apples Disk Utility to reconize the DVD-RW to format or
erase to use for data. The DVD-RW just never appears anyplace.

Any thoughts?
