I own an Iomega CD-RW 52x DVD-ROM. It's designed to burned just CD's. I eard a rumor that with the proper software a CD burner will burn DVD's? is that true? If so which software?

It's not true. The hardware just can't do it – nothing software can do about it.

Yep, physically impossible as they both use different grade lasers. Software has nothing to do with it, it's the hardware holding you back.

if what you mean is that you can burn dvd quality video on a CD, there is a format for this, Super Video CD. The article linked below suggests most players will play them. You just can't fit nearly as much on each disc. Toast 7 will burn SVCDs using a CD burner.

Edit: The video is not as good as a DVD, but much better than a standard VCDs. The article says "virtually the same", but the chart indicated it maxes out @ 480*480. If any of you have been messing around encoding movies for a 5G ipod, to show on a TV, you'll already know 480*480 is good enough for many things, but isn't DVD quality

SVCD certainly looks _much_ better than VCD. If you haven't got a DVD-burner, SVCD certainly is work looking into.
