hey, i have an imac with 0s 9 and 0s x jaguar, i was trying to start up on os x and it came up with an error saying the master.passwd file is missing. I dont have an extra partition for both os's, so when i boot up on the reinstall cd, it only says macintosh hd, not anything else, can some please tell me how to reboot onto os 9? I know there is a button to push on the keyboard when you restart, but i dont know which one it is. SOmeone please help!

Well there's alt/option, but that's only to choose from different partitions, not systems. Sorry.

Well if you had X and 9 on 2 parts than you could put 9 as your 1st ans X as your 2nd and boot into 9 by holding down D (Defalt), but I guess that has nothing to do with your problem, lol.

How do you do that?

If OS 9 is the default OS to boot, OS X launches when you boot while holding "X" down...I haven't tried myself, but OS 9 might boot if you hold "9" down on startup...

IF OS 9 is set as the default startup, then hold the D to use that default, Hold X to use OSX for bootup. Of course, leaving 9 as default should also mean that rebooting with no choice should boot to 9! that doesn't solve this thread problem, Boot to OS9 install CD, that will go to a Finder screen, go to control panels and choose OS 9 startup disk in Startup Disk control panel, reboot, should come back in 9!
