Whatever happened to the configure and make commands? Are there any equivalents in os x's unix? Or else, how do I do to compile?

You need to install the Developer Tools CD to get these. Or you get get them from Darwin

There's an old thread here http://www.macosx.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=211 on how to do it. I have no idea if it still works.

You're probably better off joining ADC Online & downloading the complete tools set from www.apple.com/developer/. That gets you PB & IB plus a bunch of nifty utilities.
