Does anyone know of a compiler that costs less than $500?

I'm a little tentative about getting metrowerk's learning edition, because if it's $450 cheaper, there's gotta be something significant missing. any free ones or relatively cheap ones?

the developer tools cd in the OSX box has everything you need. the compiler is gcc, which is free.
