Cable Modem/DSL IP Questions...

1st I am not a hacker of anysort... So please take a moment to read this question carefully.

I use a cable modem and a router... I use a Toshiba PCX1100U model... and the router is an old HPRO200...

Is it possible for someone who knew they were going to lose their DSL connection... to bounce a singal or hack into another IP address to regain temporary access to their own network?

Another words I had a friend who's pretty awesome at networking... He wanted me to host his site by bringing over his tower which has Server 2000 in it... but my mother turned him down because we are getting ready to move..

Is it possible if someone knows your IP address... that they can somehow bounce a singal from their dying DSL service which was terminated... (Direct TV was his service... Telocity was his DSL modem) to someone elses IP and use your bandwith... without you knowing it... therefore keeping their own connection alive... even if they live say 10-15 miles away?

It's actually not going to be possible because of the way DSL works. With cable it's a little different, but this is basically how DSL works:

There's a cabinet at your ISP called and ATF cabinet. All of the provisioning is done with hard wires in there. They can control your package, which phone line is getting the service and such. That's why you can't spoof it and get more bandwidth because they have it set with hard wires, not just with a software provisioning program.

In plain terms, you're SOL. If you want to do something like that you could try a direction Yagi antennae system because you'd have much better luck with that.

Again I am telling you I am the one... Who may have had this happen to me... I am not trying to mess with the system... I just don't know if it happened... etc.

They only thing that they could really do over DSL is use your IP address if you have static IPs. But they would still have to have their own service and then it would cause you to get the "A duplicate IP address already exists on the network" so only one is going to function at a time.

Again, they would have to have service for this to be possible though.

Well... It's a long story... Has to do with a friend who is now my x-friend etc....

He's one of those people who knows alot about networking and ISP's... etc... and I am not going to directly say he did do this... and I cannot say he didn't...

I just have one of those put stomach feelings it's possible because when he was going to lose his ISP DSL service... He wanted me to host his Server from my house byt my parents would not allow it... So I feel maybe he did or didn't try to use my ISP... I dunno... This is why I asked if it could be done.
