At a guess I'd say you're talking about iCal, which will be a free download for Mac OS X 10.2 "Jaguar". They were demonstrating this software at MacWorld recently, and it seems that it might not actually ship with Jaguar but be available as a separate download.
Perhaps you saw a calender displayed directly on the desktop? There are quite a few Desktop Calendar apps on VersionTracker at http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/index.shtml
There is also M$ Entourage, which is part of M$'s office suite.

yep, that was one of those that you'll find on http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx ... just look for the words 'desktop' and 'calendar'.
