Can an apple display be used on a PC?

Apple Virgin
I'm just wondering if Apple's displays are compatable with PC's GFX card's?
Would the aspect ratio or resolution of an apple display screw it up?
Sorry if this is a n00bish question! :o

It should work just fine. Apple displays are not "Apple displays" -- they just have the Apple logo on them. It's the same as using a Dell display with an Apple machine -- works just fine. As long as your PC graphics card has the proper connector, you should be fine. Newer Apple displays use a standard DVI connection, so as long as your PC graphics card has a DVI connector, you should be fine.

Some Apple displays have a proprietary ADC connector, though, so you'd need to acquire the proper converter for your Windows machine. If this is the case, tell us and we can point you in the proper direction for a converter.

It depends on what flat-screen Apple display you're talking about. The ones with the G4-ish styling (with the grey Apple logo and white vertical pinstripes) will require either a DVI to ADC adaptor or a VGA to ADC adaptor, both of which exist, depending on what port the PC graphics card has (VGA or DVI):

The newer aluminum Apple flat screen displays all use the DVI connector, so if your PC's graphics card has a DVI connector, no adaptor will be needed. If the PC's graphics card only has a VGA connector, then you'll need a DVI to VGA adaptor:

What it comes down to is:

If the plug fits, it will work. There's probably about an 80% chance this is the case.

If the plug doesn't fit, there's an adapter you can get to make it work, the question is just whether it's worth the bother.
