Can I boot from an external dvd rom?

Hi

I have a G3 iBook and want to upgrade from 10.3 to Tiger but only have a CD-rw drive.

If I get a firewire to IDE kit and hook up one of my spare DVD roms/rw drives will I be able to boot the Tiger disc from that? I would use my younger brothers iMac with a dvd rom but he knackered it arg!

I installed using an external firewire drive on my iBook G4 (my combo drive broke...) worked just fine.

Just make sure it's a supported drive under Tiger. I tried it with my external FW DVD burner and it wouldn't boot.

So I yanked the one out of my G4 and put it in my G3 to install it.
