macbook pro battery is not holding charge. My macbook has a serial number in the recall range but my battery does not.

Wanted a heads up before I battle with Applecare tomorrow.

Here is what my battery is currently achieving.

with this I am getting about 50mins-1hr use before it expires. I am not impressed.

Battery Information:

Battery Installed: Yes
First low level warning: No
Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 1328
Remaining Capacity (mAh): 882
Amperage (mA): 471
Voltage (mV): 12605
Cycle Count: 548

the battery was with the macbook when I purchased it in December 2006 and I took the Applecare cover until Dec 09.

The cycle count of 548 is rather high and as you've said that the battery isn't one of those that are announced for recall.

I am going to try anyway. Batteries are covered by Applecare if they are faulty and I think I can claim that because of the huge drop in its power retention.

will let you all know how I get on.

If it were based just on the battery being approx. 1 year and 7 months old,
you might have a slight chance at a free replacement - but the high cycle
count may work against you.

It never hurts to try - good luck!

With that cycle count and the age of the battery your chances of getting the replacement are close to zero.

Batteries, AFAIK are _not_ covered by AppleCare, because it's just "normal use" kind of a thing. Some batteries lose their ability to hold a charge after one or two years, some after two to three. Yours, sadly, is starting earlier than others. Have to agree with Giaguara.
