Can I use my old mac with Airtunes?

I'm looking to doing this:

MacBook -)via airtunes)) Powermac G4.
So basically I want to play music on my macbook and the sound coming out of my stereo (which the G4 is connected too) without buying an airport thing.

Is this possible?

I found this airport hack, but I can't download it too try it

Well does your stereo have a ethernet port or is it on the network? You say the G4 is connected to to the stereo so if the G4 can play on the stereo, and is on your network, you could use simplify Media on both of you Macs and control the iTunes on the G4.

Heck you could even just setup iTunes sharing on the G4 and control the iTunes from your other Mac. You could even do it with Screen Sharing. So you have many different ways but I still feel the AirPort Express would be your best bet. You probably can get an older G model from EBay or some reseller for less.
