Can’t boot from DVD

Hi. I got a problem booting from my DVD installation disc. I got a PowerBook G4 (1GB/133mhz) on which I currently run OS X 10.4. However, my mac has started to lag so I want to erase the hard disc and reinstall from scratch, starting with OS X 10.3.

Now the problem is this: When I insert the installation disc, it first seems like it reads from the discs (saying: ”preparing installation”) but then this little device on the screen starts spinning. And this is as far as I ever get. The device doesn’t stop spinning. What can be the problem?

Have you added any 3rd-party RAM to the system? What about the system is not "stock?"

Is the 10.3 disk you're trying to boot from a retail version of 10.3, or the 10.3 "Restore" CD/DVD that came with the computer?
 
Hi Diablo. Yes, I have inserted extra RAM, but I believe the extra 500mg are the same brand as the original. As for the DVD, I think it's the ratailer version that came with the black cardboard box (I bought the computer second hand).
 
If the retail version of OS X 10.3 is less than or equal to the version of OS X 10.3 that originally shipped with that computer (for example, if the retail disk you have is 10.3.2 and the PowerBook originally shipped with 10.3.4), then you cannot use that disk to install OS X on your PowerBook.

You must use either the original "Restore" disks that came with the computer, or a retail version of OS X that is greater in version number to the version number of OS X that originally shipped with the computer.
