Can\'t send attachments from my Mac E-mail

I'm using Mac mail (I guess that's what you'd call the little postage stamp at the bottom of the screen) and when I try to send attachments, it appears they're going when I hit send but people on the other end never get them. How can I get attachments to complete the journey?

What version of Mail and what version of OS X are you using?

I presume the icon for the attachment is showing up in Mail, or sometimes if it is short the attached photo or PDF itself will be open on your mail page before you send it.

Assuming the recipients are poor benighted PC users, do you have Mail > Edit > Attachments > Send Windows friendly attachments checked?

Is AOL your ISP or your recipients ISP?

How big are the attachments?
