Plug in external keyboard to see what happens. If it works through external it may need a new top case which is a complete take apart of one of those (did 1 last week). If no external keyboard you can go to system preferences/international and activate keyboard viewer to see whats happening when you hit the shift key. It should be covered under warranty but be very sure you didn't spill anything in the keyboard because that voids the warranty and you'll have to pay. Those units also have liquid spill indicators all over the underside of the top case.

So if I got this straight the right shift won't work with m or j but does work with any other character? It still will not work through external keyboard?

I would still go into system prefs/international and turn on keyboard viewer to see whats happening.

Yes right+shift works with any other characters other then m j och /.
When I connected the external keyboard it worked, I got capitol m j or / with the right shift button. But only with the external keyboard.

I have turned on keyboard wiewer ( in fact it was turned on already ).
But I dont know were to look for the reaction when I press the right shift button.

Sincerely yours
Daniel

Click on your 'Flag' icon, and choose Show Keyboard Viewer.
You will see a representation of your keyboard on your screen.
You then will see a response on your screen keyboard for each key that you press. You can then test each key, and each key while holding the right shift.

Ahaaa
When I push shift left or right they light up, but when I push right shift + m, j or / only shift light up, not the character ( m j or / ).

U doesnt work either.

Okej
What I meant was that with the ext keyboard I got capitol letters but when I disconnected it the problem remained.

sorry

Sounds like a wiring problem, then. You could have the topcase (incl. keyboard and trackpad) replaced. If under warranty, that's certainly the way to go. If not, it might seem to steep a price and you might want to stick to the left shift key.

The MacBooks have fluid-indicators beneath the keyboard and throughout the machine, so even if you're not aware of any wrongdoing, someone might have spilled something over it. either way: i'd take it to an apple service provider.

I was trying to set up a quick key for 'speech', that is, to read text. I'd inadvertently selected shift s to turn speech on and off. It took a few days to notice that I could no longer get a capital S except by using the caps lock.

All other letters and symbols continued to work normally with the shift key.

Using the keyboard viewer didn't help so much as recognizing that the Mac was occasionally reading text to me. This was because I was turning speech on and off.

Moral? check to see if you've set a quick key using shift j or m or whatever.

Keyboard Viewer did help me another way. If this was in the book, I never found it. This is a wireless keyboard with only a delete key. Keyboard Viewer helped me discover that there is a back space function, fn + delete...cool!
