Can you hear your iPod's drive spinning?

I am the law!
I have the 20gb iPod and just a few minutes ago while it was sitting on my desk [plugged in] it started making this whirring noise like a fan. I've always been able to hear it click and crunch while it loads songs, but now whenever its reading from the drive [like when its preloading music into memory] the whirring noise is VERY noticeable. I wonder if the drive is about to fail :(

Hmm... normally I have to put it right near my ear for me to hear it. Or it has to be VERY quiet. Doesn't sound good, buddy. Might want to get it checked out.

Listen to this recording of the noise...
I added iPod clicking sound so you know the relative loudness of the noise...

Now when I turn on my iPod, it wants me to select my language...

Note: This sound stays this way until I shut the iPod down.

My 20GB iPod only makes the whirring noise when it powers on after being off and the hard drive spins up. Then during song changes it makes the usual hard drive noises, but not loud at all.

Right now I am having the ultimate problem with my iPod: It's died. I can't ever get any kind of response from the poor thing :( Consider yourself lucky - mine wont even beep when I set it in the cradle!
