Cannot Drag icons (solved)

I have a friend who has an iMac running 10.2.8. Although her mouse is working, she cannot drag ANY icons from around on her desktop.

She can highlight the, double-click them and open them, but she cannot drag them.

We have rebooted, checked mouse settings under sysprefs and even swapped out mice.

Any ideas what would keep her from being able to simply drag something?

See if this helps;

Delete the icon cache found in /Library/Caches/ whose name is "com.apple.dock.iconcache.#USERNAME#"

And these also

com.apple.desktop.plist
com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.LaunchServices.plist


Then restart
 
Hmmm, let's try this:
setup a new user account on her machine and check how the mouse/icons behave. Did you try repairing permissions?
 
This is a known and recurring problem in Jaguar. Go here and download Dragster. It is a donationware utility specifically designed to get drag and drop working again.
 
Dragster seemed to help. Thanks. I did have to run it twice and it did not fix the hidden icon problem, but now that we can drag/drop it will hold us over until we upgrade to panther.

Edited the thread's title, as the "PLEASE" sounded a bit harsh now that the problem was solved. ;-)
