cannot install !!!! mac os x

i erase my HD and i try to install a fresh 10.3.3 and i get the message "You cannot install MAC OS X on this volumne .An earlier version of MACOS X is not installed any help ???????? power book G4

Don't panic, and please give us some details:

Is the 10.3.3 installer the retail Panther CD set?
It probably should be.
Is it perhaps for another Mac? If so, it may well
not work on your machine.
Is it perhaps an updater? That'd explain why it
wants an earlier version.

The version of the OS you're trying to install is most likely an update and not the full system.
