cannot print in Jaguar

I have an Espon 750 stylus photo printer. Whenever I boot form OS9 (I have 2 partitions) I do print without any problem.
When I try to print from OS X (10.2.4) I get the following message
"Communication error with the printer. Please reset (or turn on) the printer and try printing again"

Any ideas?

Open Print Center (/Application/Utilities) and make sure your printer is listed there. If it's not, then OS X isn't seeing your printer.
 
and nothing happens. The printer is selected and the jobs are listed as stopped. When I launch the queue they again get stopped.

I'm having the same problem with 10.2.4 on my 1Ghz 15" SD PB. the printer I use is an HP 1220c connected through a powered usb hub. What gives?
