Cannot remove or edit contacts in On My Mac

I've pretty much given up with having any calendars, contacts or emails associated with any "old" address books in Contacts other than in the iCloud. That works fine and syncs with my iphone, ipad and mac mini.

However, the gmail address book don't match on all the devices. And I have a very squirrelly thing going on with "On My Mac" where ALL the addresses (150) were duplicated onto one contact. The rest are there, but this has all of them, including their names, addresses, phone numbers. I have tried a lot of things including going into the library and deleting anything that says address book. It all just comes back.
I am able to move a contact from "On My Mac" to the iCloud, but then of course, it is now in two places in ALL contacts. But at least the icloud is working.

If anyone has any idea as to have to get rid of the On My Mac or how to fix this, that would be great. As I say, I can't even edit a contact in there. If I do, the info I have just deleted returns in about five seconds.

If all your contacts are combined into one contact-- does that mean that you have only one contact, instead of 150 contacts?
If you have 151 contacts (more or less), instead of just one now, what happens if simply delete the one contact (the one that apparently shows all your contacts in one contact sheet)?
And -- does that contact (with all the 150 names) have just one name for the contact itself? If yes, is there anything you can think of that might have caused that name to be chosen as the contact name for that contact? (Maybe it is simply first in the list, alphabetically)

Yes, all contacts were on one card and individually they also exist. One card with 150 names, 150 addresses, 150 phone numbers all listed.

I just noticed something in responding here. I noticed there was a "nickname" that was someone else's named card on the card that was called "Dr. AAA Adams," definitely some sort of mash up of a Dr. Adams and AAA.
On this 150 name card, the company was someone's occupation. I was in ALL Contacts. I was able to edit the card by deleting these strange entries. Then was able to delete the card. Have no idea why this worked, unless it's because I have turned these address books off on the iphone, iPad and this Mac Mini.

However, I have "ON MY MAC" turned off and my Gmail account email (that shows up under On My Mac also turned off. I have everything now off except iCloud Contacts.

In the On My Mac there are two "untitled list" (empty) and a duplicate of my gmail email. These could not be deleted. I actually have deleted them, just now ... and I will try enabling the accounts later to see if these lists come back. I'll keep you posted.
