Cannot scan from Lexmark X2650 to iPHOTO

I have just tried my first scan from my Lexmark X2650 printer. The scanner seems to work, but I cannot find the image on my MacBook and certainly not in iPHOTO where I want it (I am scanning photos). As per the Lexmark site, I already enabled Access for Assistive Devices via Universal Access as they recommended as the solution, but that had no effect..

Image Capture pops up, and the image to scan is visible, but I am not allowed to scan.

The experts at Mac seem to have given up on this problem. Lexmark has no answer.

What version of Mac OS X are you using? Are you using Image Capture to manage the scan? If so, where are you telling it to save the image?
 
Many thanks for your reply. I am using mac OS X 10.5.8. When I press the scan button, Image Capture opens, and I can see the image to scan. Where would you suggest that I tell it to save the image? Since iPHOTO also opens automatically, I thought that that meant it would save the image there, but...

I don't have a scanner hooked up at the moment, however I think saving the image to a particular place is a separate step from choosing what happens after the scan. Save anywhere to ensure the image gets saved, even if it's only going to be imported to iPhoto.

After the scanner previews the image, is it automatically selecting the part of the frame that it thinks you want to scan?, or are you having to select the image manually? I don't think one is normally able to click the Scan button until some section is selected.
 
I have had trouble finding scanned images from my Lexmark before. I believe my daughter found them in my documents for me. I have no clue why they did not go to iphoto, but they didn't.
 
As I said, it's a two step process. After choosing the name of a scanned image, one menu permits you to choose where images get saved and the next to choose what happens after the scan.
 
Many thanks for your message. Yes, I am advised to select which part of the image I wish to scan, but I cannot discover how to do that. Just clicking on the image does not select it. Do you know how to do it?

Image Capture doesn't already know the difference between the image and the space around it. So you need to drag to select the image. You can resize the selection box after you first create it.
 
I cannot drag the image around in the box. I can only create white spaces, which soon disappear. As you can see, I am no echnical wizard, but this process should be easier. I only want to scan some photos to iPHOTO after all.

I don't understand about your disappearing white spaces. After previewing the image, you must be able to put the cursor near one corner of the photo and click and drag to the opposite corner to create a frame that selects the portion of the space on the scanner glass that contains the image you want to scan.
