Canon S2 IS digicam on Powerbook G4

While setting up our new Canon S2 IS camera to our PowerBook G4, we aren't able to setup the ImageBrowser Auto Start Settings per the instructions. The instructions say all of this must be done before the camera is connected to the Mac.
So I looked to get the latest ImageBrowser updates from Canon and successfully downloaded ImageBrowser Updater 5.5 for Mac OS X from the Canon site. Elsewhere on the Canon site, it says no drivers are available for the S2 IS camera yet.
First - Has anyone else setup a Canon S2 IS on a Mac yet? Any issues connecting it to download photos?
2nd - Is it safe to connect the camera to the Mac without the AutoStart Settings? We're paranoid since the S2 IS camera replaced a S1 IS which only lasted about five uses before becoming DOA.
thanks!

No, but even though it is not listed as a supported camera by iPhoto ( http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/cameras.html ) I'd be very surprised if it didn't work right out of the box. Plug it in, launch iPhoto, and see how you go.

No harm could possibly come to the camera from plugging it in and trying to sync it. At worst, if the camera is not recognised, it will simply mount as a drive rather than launching iPhoto or ImageBrowser. You will then be able to copy the photo files from the camera manually.

I repeat: plugging it into your Mac should not damage the camera. If your previous one was DOA, it would not be because of software or drivers on the Mac.

We connected the camera to the Mac and it immediately recognized the camera and asked if we wanted to import. It worked perfectly. My thanks.
